Sailing around the Atlantic 2017-18
On 19 April 2017, Kenneth Patterson, board member and experienced skipper of the CNCE, left his mooring in Nieuwpoort (Belgium) aboard "Zaria", his Ovni 395, an aluminium built centreboard cutter fully equipped for blue-water sailing. Sailing mostly singlehanded from the North of Europe to Africa, crossing the Atlantic with the trade winds, visiting the coast of South America up to the Caribbean archipelago, and crossing back to Europe with the Gulf Stream was an ambitious sailing trip but he had planned and prepared for it well in advance.
He sailed to Madeira, Porto Santo, Selvagem Islands, Canary Islands, Dakar, the Saloum river, Banjul, the river Gambia and three of the islands in the Cape Verde group. On 23 January 2018, Ken successfully completed his 16-day transatlantic leg to Paramaribo, Suriname followed by some leisurely cruising to Grenada and further northwards in the Antilles. He returned via Bermuda and the Azores and arrived in UK waters in July 2018.
West Wales Cruise
In the summer of 2018, Ken organised a "Celtic" trip along the west coast of Wales, from Cardiff to Caernarfon.

Blue Water Sailing Conference
When Ken was back in Brussels for a short break from his fabulous voyage sailing from Nieuwpoort to Cape Verde via the Azores and Canary Islands, Senegal and Gambia he delivered a passionate and interesting presentation of his sailing adventure, guiding participants through the fascinating world of the globetrotters and distilling precious lessons he learned from his blue-water sailing experience. Whether you are preparing your long-distance cruise of a life, or you want to enrich your sailing experience, you might find it interesting to consult his slides, which reflect of course his personal view of things and experiences.
