Goofies Winter Races

Picture

Goofies - 1st Saturday of every month from November 2019 until April 2020

Summary
In the winter of 2019/2020, BlueOne will take part in the Goofies series for the second year. For the competitive sailors who want to keep polishing their skills over the winter period, this is a great opportunity. The Goofies Race is a one day regattas with an informal character where having fun is first. The start/finish line is just outside Colijnsplaat harbour entrance and the races around cans are quickly finished in a few hours in the afternoon. During the past years we have seen that the organisers are very kind: the colder it gets, the shorter the race track is!
About the race
The Goofies Winter Race is sailed in Colijnsplaat, the home port of BlueOne, on the first Saturday of the month from October to April. These winter competitions started in 1984 and were originally organised by two sailors, both with the first name Goof. The Goofies are an informal race where having fun is the main objective. Over the years, the number of participants has grown to a large sailing event with many competitive teams.
How much will it cost?
The Participation Fee is EUR 90 per sailor.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
At winter time the conditions can be harsh (windy and cold) so make sure you are well equipped for these events (full sailing gear: waterproofs, sailing boots, sailing gloves and layers to keep you warm during the race). BlueOne's usual wind and temperature limits apply, so be prepared for a last minute cancellation.
WHAT DO I DO NEXT? (PAYMENT + COMPETITION LICENCE)
  • Write to us as soon as possible using the form below. We will get back to you with further details on payment etc.
  • You will need to request your (free) "licence compétition" to upgrade your current CNCE insurance to also cover regattas!
WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I'VE SIGNED UP?
The skipper will get in touch with you with more details. We will leave early in the morning from Brussels (carpooling organised) to arrive in time for the morning race briefing and setting-up the boat for the start signals given around noon. After a few hours of racing, we will be back in Brussels by the evening.
BlueOne's usual wind and temperature limits apply, so be prepared for a last minute cancellation.

Ostend - Ramsgate
Regatta

Ostend - Ramsgate Regatta, 28 May (pm) - 2 June 2019

Summary
The CNCE’s Racing Team will be looking to pull off another podium result at the 2019 Ostend-Ramsgate offshore race. In 2018, we placed third in our class in the outgoing leg and came second in the Ramsgate inshore race. Organised by the Royal North Sea Yacht Club, this weekend regatta is a combination of two offshore races and one inshore race.
If you are up for an exciting and competitive sailing adventure across the English Channel, please fill in our booking form to enquire and receive further information from our experienced skippers!
About the Race
Two offshore races across the Channel and one inshore race in the UK.
The first leg is a Channel crossing from Ostend (BE) to Ramsgate (UK). The second race is an inshore regatta (round the cans) in Ramsgate, and the third race is the return crossing from the United Kingdom to Belgium.
In addition, this activity will include the transfer of our yacht BlueOne from Colijnsplaat, Netherlands, to Ostend and, after the race, from Ostend back to Colijnsplaat.
The transfer legs are mandatory and constitute training sessions, including working as a team on deck, hoisting the spinnaker and learning about sail trim. The race itself will be a challenging full-day sail across the Channel with a BlueOne crew competing with other sailors who are as keen to win as we are!
Some racing or offshore experience is required for this regatta.

DATES
  • Tuesday 28 May: Evening meeting on BlueOne (Colijnsplaat) to prepare the boat and plan.
  • Wednesday 29 May: Colijnsplaat to Oostende (Early Departure, transfer and training)
  • Thursday 30 May: Oostende to Ramsgate (Offshore Race)
  • Friday 31 May: Inshore Racing in Ramsgate
  • Saturday 1 June: Ramsgate to Oostende (Offshore Race)
  • Sunday 2 June: Training and Transfer of BlueOne to Colijnsplaat
A briefing will take place in Brussels sometime before the event.
How much will it cost?

This does not include a 'kitty' to cover shared costs for breakfasts, lunches or dinners (on board or in restaurants) and any diesel used during the passage. The race fees include one dinner in the RNSYC Club House on Saturday. As most of us live in Brussels, we often carpool to Zeeland and back.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
For this race you will need full sailing gear (waterproofs, sailing boots, sailing gloves and layers to keep you warm during the passage). Please keep your luggage to a minimum to avoid excessive weight on the boat (we are racing!). This year’s format of regatta is a club/offshore race with each sailboat scores based on their finishing position using rating applied to different boat types. The islands offer a different shelter based on the direction of wind (mainly north-westerly) so the races routes will be adjusted based on the weather conditions.

22 September: Racing day 1 (Portorosa – Vulcano Island) and mooring in Lipari for the night

25 September: Return to Portorosa (by 18:00), overnight on board if needed

How much will it cost?
EUR 350 advance payment per sailor to be paid to the club´s account; the exact Participation Fee will be determined once all boats are full, based on actual cost (estimated by the organisers between EUR 250-300).
This does not include a shared kitty to cover breakfasts, lunches or dinners prepared on board, flight tickets, airport transfer, refuelling, security deposit, mooring costs in Lipari and during navigation, additional accommodation if needed.

TRANSPORT:
Participants can fly to Catania or Palermo and rent a car to Portorosa (1.5h drive). Transfers to/from Portorosa are available upon request from Reggio Calabria, Catania, Palermo and Trapani.
